Though many spas, aestheticians and dermatologists have been touting the benefits of chemical peels for years, I have always been wary. With sensitive skin, I’ve feared turning out like a tomato like Samantha in that Sex and the City season five episode. However over the past few years, I have started getting into the groove with at-home peels, which are generally a lot less harsh that the professional variety.

Yesterday, Kelly (our fabulous Bath & Body blogger) mentioned Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Peel when discussing pumpkin beauty products. Coincidentally, this same product was my first introduction to peels. This detoxifying peel features pumpkin enzymes, which are antioxidant-rich. Antioxidants work on your skin at the cellular level, promoting turnover and protecting your skin against free radicals.
To use this peel, you simply apply a thin layer over your entire face and neck. The instructions say to leave it on for one to five minutes. For me, two minutes was effective but I could have probably gone another minute without any problems. Make sure your skin isn’t irritated before using it. After a couple minutes, rinse it off with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. Voila!
Your skin instantly feels and looks softer and more radiant. The dead skin cells are gone, revealing a fresh new you! Be sure that you use a moisturizer and follow up with sunscreen if you are leaving the house. This type of peel is perfect if you want something a little stronger than your traditional exfoliating facial scrub, but not so harsh that you’ll be looking like a beet.
Have you experimented with any at-home peels? Leave your comments and let us know about your experience.
A 3.3 oz jar of Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Peel is priced at $44.00.
