Beach Babe Hair Color

I’m beginning to reconsider this whole hair color thing.

For those unaware, I am actually a natural blonde. I have no color in it, but I’m always kind of intrigued by the possibility of it all.

And if I get color, it’ll most likely be Balayage.

Balayage is a French hair painting technique that gives a natural, sun-kissed look for summer. Celebs including Giselle, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Aniston both use this technique to achieve perfect golden locks.

According to my new friend Mia, a San Francisco colorist, color grows out with a more natural look than regular foil highlighting giving clients a little bit longer time to go between touch ups… a big perk in a down economy.

This is an excellent point! Spreading out the time between color appointments can make what seems to be a big splurge actually quite affordable.

This technique became popular – as you may expect – in Paris, way back in the ’70s. The word literally means “to sweep” and the color is literally SWEPT in your hair. The sweeping carries the color from the base to the tip, and the color is applied lightest at the base, and heavier at the tip – this obviously makes the color chunky, which is more natural, and also will conceal the outgrowth for the first few months.

I love it because it’s just a more artistic way of getting your hair color. Some may like the subtle uniformness of foil highlights – but they are very uniform, as I said, which lets people know you have gotten highlights. It’s just a red flag! Balayage makes you look like you’ve been hanging out in the sun – making me the true California girl I know I am! (And will be once I move there….which is where my fantasies keep taking me…)
