Custom blended makeup has been around for a good while now, but not a lot of people I know really use it. In my case, Prescriptives is the only one readily available to me in my mid-size town, and it is just not my favorite cosmetics line. And I am too fickle anyway, as you probably have figured out, to get too attached to colors.
The NYTimes has an interesting article today, Mix It Up: Makeup for Any Skin and Any Mood, talking about custom blended makeup and its current popularity. Here is a little snip from the article:
Finding the perfect match is not the only reason custom cosmetics are getting popular. The new products also give women a say in how their beauty products are made. Now anyone can make sure that the contents of her makeup bag are as unique as the playlist on her iPod.
Along with Prescriptives, the article mentions several other companies who will custom create products from cosmetics to skin care items to perfumes. One I love, and have used before is Three Custom Color Specialists. They have become quite popular for their copying service. If you can’t find your favorite lipstick, eyeshadow, foundation color–whatever–in the stores anymore, just send them a bit of it in a plastic bag, and they will custom blend you a new one to match. I use their “Ready To Wear (not custom blended)” concealers, and love them. I keep a very light one and a very dark one, and blend them to match what I need them to match. They also have a great palette (pictured above) of concealer colors that can be used to highlight and contour and match your skin during any season. Also check out their lip palette on their front page. Gorgeous, and great stuff!
