A longstanding niche perfumer, Annick Goutal is perhaps best known for Eau d’Hadrien. If Acqua di Parma reflects the Tuscan terroir, Eau de Sud is the terroir of the French Riviera. This perfume is mediterranean with its bracing citrus and herbal (supposedly mint and basil, but I get more of a rosemary…) undertoned opening, giving way to a faint tobacco and cumin heart (cumin can smell like sweat/body odor in scents like this and Alexander McQueen’s Kingdom) but it dries down into something almost bookish and refined. Another perfume/cologne that I’m willing to share with the mister! Since it has been around since 1995 it is fairly easy to find at the discount internet perfumeries….I found a decent price of $59 for 3.3 oz.
