Today Bloomberg reported that major Japanese beauty companies Kao and Shiseido are reporting lower earnings than expected given the state of the economy and how severely consumer spending on cosmetics and skin care products has declined.
Demand for consumer products is weakening as Japan slides into its worst postwar recession, leading Kao and companies including Shiseido Co. and Nintendo Co. to cut forecasts. Tokyo- based Kao, whose skin-care brands include Jergens and Biore, also faces a declining market with Japan’s population probably shrinking by a record last year. Japan’s household spending slid 4.6 percent in December, a 10th month of declines.
So what does that mean for you and your beauty routine? Well, there are a few things you should do to make sure you have what you need…just in case.
First, make sure you have enough of your favorite products handy, especially if your skin is extra sensitive. There’s nothing worse than noticing you’re out of a favorite product – only to discover that the company no longer makes that particular line anymore. Stay ahead of things and keep a full bottle handy so you’re never running on empty. This is just good practice in general so there are no blips in your skin care routine.
There are a number of reasons for that radiant glow – and if for any reason, economy related or not, you find yourself without the products you love most…you have to learn to get by. Hopefully just for a couple of day, but possibly forever if a product is discontinued or a company goes out of business.
So have a backup plan. Yes, we know it may seem like that one product is the only way your skin looks that darn lovely. But lets face it – just as there’s no one magic solution for weight loss, there isn’t a single product that is all it takes for flawless skin. Take the time, while you do have the products you love, to continue to test out new things and be flexible. It is unfortunate that these things happen. But on the upside, this gives you an excuse to spend a little extra time pampering yourself…!
