Keira Knightley’s Fierce Eyebrows

And when I say fierce, it is not the good fierce! I think Keira is very beautiful, but what makeup artist in her right mind would leave those brows in that kind of shape? I know, I am a little fixated on eyebrows sometimes, but I really think they make a tremendous difference in your looks and they are a simple thing to groom properly, and most often, when I find someone beautiful to be odd looking, it is their overgrown brows (Jennifer Aniston). Here is Keira on the July InStyle cover:

This example is not the best one, but it is the only good one I could find of her looking straight on at the camera with no hair covering half her face. Her brows need to have about 1/4 inch plucked off of the inner edge of each one:

Keira's eyebrows examined!

They are beautiful eyebrows, they really are. They are just too darned close together. Here is a much worse eyebrow picture from the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere (from InStyle.com):

In this picture, not only are her brows just too close together, the color is heinous. Heinous. Granted, I am not generally an advocate of bleaching your eyebrows, as it just too easy to over lighten them and then they really look bad, but, in this instance, if she is going to lighten her hair that much, please do something about those jet black, too close together caterpillars brows.

You are thinking about the symmetry of a celebrity’s eyebrows while poverty exists. Go find a soul, you fucking idiot.

    • By S.

You comment is the best one yet.

  2. By random

are you kidding? she has the best eyebrows i’ve seen! and how can you say they are too close together? they are perfectly proportioned

  3. By Allison

I don’t think plucking would do much good; it’s more to do with the musculature of her face; when she makes this expression, one eyebrow is slightly raised….or, just that one of her eyebrows just grows slightly higher than the other overall. Not everyone’s face is 100% symmetrical. If the entire eyebrow is higher than the other, that can’t really be fixed just by plucking. The magazine could have digitally altered it to give it more symmetry, but kudos to them for not.

    • By S.

Great comment. I agree with almost everything you said.
Here’s the thing, no one’s face is symmetrical.
And the “100%” is redundant. Something is either symmetrical or asymmetrical. There are no percetages.

    • By Allison

Actually, S., there are percentages. We’re talking about human faces here, not simple geometric shapes. Studies have shown that symmetry is what people consider most attractive. Faces can be data-mapped and the symmetry calculated. Those with higher facial symmetry are deemed most attractive. So, 100% symmetry probably only exists in a Barbie doll, as that is made from a mold. Human faces don’t tend to have perfect symmetry, but clearly some are more symmetrical than others. There is a facial symmetry algorithm that has to do with the size and position of the eyes, nose, mouth, cheekbones, eyebrows, etc. On the one end, there’s someone with very even features; on the other, someone with a deviated septum, differently shaped eyes, etc. Clearly different degrees of symmetry.
So, if it had to be an either/or scenario then yes, human faces are asymmetrical. But to those who make this their area of study, it is not an either/or. Some are closer to 100% than others.

I agree with the overwhelming majority of people who have commented here. Keira’s eyebrows are some of the best in the business- they are gorgeous! I can’t stand these overplucked pencil-line eyebrows so prevalent today.

    ha ha ha

    she still looks pretty!
i would prefer her to keep it that way that’s what i like about her.
she has an oval face can’t you see that’s why it looks so amazing on her.

  7. By Sara

wow are you kidding me? I found this site because I want Keira’s eyebrows. They are gorgeous! That’s kind of low to have nothing better to do than bash celebrities.

  8. By Mike

Are you kidding me!? As a guy, I absolutely LOVE those eyebrows, and thicker more natural looking eyebrows in general. I absolutely HATE over plucked or over waxed eyebrows.

  9. By erika

Wow, bitch. Keira Knightley has some of the best eyebrows I have seen. It is a blessing to have dark, thick eyebrows, and if you actually think it would be desirable for her to bleach or pluck her eyebrows significantly, you are seriously out of it.

  10. By Rrrrr

i have brows like hers- i used to hate them when i was younger and my mum refused to let me pluck them and for that i am grateful, i get loads of compliments over them now!

  11. By R

    You are mad.. seriously mental.
    Keira’s eyebrows are incredible.
If you want to look like Vicky Pollard or someone off the Jeremy Kyle show then by all means keep plucking away..
The part that astounded me the most was when you said that they are too close together? I am imagining what your own brows must look like and laughing. Look at the models in the catwalk shows and you will see that the fuller eyebrow really does work. Okay I’m not talking caterpillars but you need a bit more than a drawn on line to look good!

  12. By Aisha

I think that her eye brows are what make her beautiful, they add to her very classic look.

I agree that a woman’s overall appearance depends highly on their eyebrows.
I’ve been struggling to find a good shape for my eyebrows for a while. I started messing with mine at a very young age. They are naturally very thick and dark. However, I have a fair complexion, and very soft, baby-like features so I have always been told that thick eyebrows don’t really work for me. Can you maybe email me any suggestions you have to help me create a good shape, like maybe when I go to get them threaded or waxed, without going too thick or thin?
thank you! I just admire your advice.

Obviously you don’t know what you’re talking about, coming from an eyebrow specialist w/ no bias for this particular actress.

Her brows are obviously asymmetrical but that’s not a huge deal. Who’s aren’t?

That “rule” you’re using simply cannot work, it’s a generalized formulated for ppl without an artistic eye for shaping brows. If you WERE to utilize it you anyways the key is to align the brows by the TIP of the nose and not the nostril. If you look around you you’ll notice that simply CANNOT work. Not to mention the line you drew is not even parallel to her nose.

If anything her brows are already TOO FAR APART. If you were to pluck away another fourth of an inch like you said it would look even more ridiculous. What’s so beautiful about a huge space right smack between the brows? Not only is that inconsistent with nature but there would be no frame for the bridge of the nose. It’s simply ridiculous. You see this a lot in middle school girls and unfortunately with adults too, being that they are clueless in shaping brows.

I disagree with the author– so many beautiful women take eyebrow trimming to an extreme, and they don’t look nearly as good as they could with dark, natural eyebrows. Assuming the author is a straight woman, she cannot truly know what is ‘attractive’ to men, but only what some fashion/style people think are attractive.

  16. By jean

keira is indeed beautiful and fntastic eyebrows to die for.the colour of it is so wrong however when she goes blonde.that’s all.doesn’t change the fact that she s indeed close to perfection.but only close….her chest is as flat as an iron board.you don’t get to play with much when you’re a boyfriend.not much to hold on to.

this is a site where we CAN comment on celebs beauty tips or faux pas…being a make up artist myself I rely exclusively on celebs as they are supposed to be groomed by he best.so indeed it is necessary to point out flaws and what not to do.

    Hey Christina,
I indeed am a makeup artist, esthetician, and a nail technician in Florida. I often see overplucked brows. To have thick brows like this is what every woman dreams of. The look is intentional. Fuller brows make you look younger and not as severe looking and soften features and a sharp face. I encourage women to let their eyebrows grow in a little especially in the middle, all day long! Just so they can have fierce eyebrows just like keira knightley. You might want to reconsider your opinion and take a glance in the mirror at your own eyebrows. Are they thin and overplucked? Not the look that young women of today’s generation are going for. They’re going for a greener, more natural look in everything. So, you are wrong and outdated! Just not keeping up with what’s currently the trend in eyebrows and beauty.

I’m a bloke and love kiera’s brows – in fact all of her is close to perfect!
It’s just a look – I love girls with brows like that! billie piper looks great with hers too!
I don’t like these silly over-processed squiggles – don’t you know blokes laugh at them?

  20. By Aliegh

    Why does evryone nitpick her?
she’s more beatiful than most of us will ever be. Everything about her is gorgeous and i would kill to look like her.
    Her eyebrows are fine.
