Revitalize Your Skin With Three New Procedures on The Horizon For 2009

Maintaining flawless skin doesn’t come easily. Or cheap. Sometimes a luxury moisturizer or diligent daily cleansing aren’t enough to see the improvements you’re looking for in your skin. Here are three techniques dermatologists are turning to for clients looking to clear up stubborn acne scars, reduce fine lines and freshen up their physical appearance.

The sun wreaks havoc on the skin, causing wrinkles, sun spots and in some cases, cancer.  PDT works by targeting pre-cancerous and sun damaged cells under the skin’s surface with the use of topical medication and low-intensity light over three to four treatments to destroy sun damaged skin cells as well as acne scars.  Patients experience minimal pain and results are typically seen 30 minutes to 18 hours after treatment.

Plasma Skin Regeneration
Unlike other devices that use laser energy to rejuvenate the skin, plasma skin regeneration devices such as Portrait® use ionized energy to stimulate the development of collagen.  As chemical peels and microdermabrasion techniques irritate the skin to stimulate collagen production, plasma skin regeneration leaves the skin in tact while significantly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and increasing the skin’s smoothness.  Plasma skin regeneration is a concentrated procedure that often requires just one session and a recovery time of up to seven days.

Radiofrequency Tissue Tightening
The Aluma® skin renewal system is the latest noninvasive procedure that uses radiofrequency to tighten the skin.  This device heats cells under the skin and stimulates them to produce more collagen.  While other devices require higher levels of heat across larger areas of the skin, Aluma® is a vacuum assisted technique that uses lower levels of radio frequency over three to five sessions, allowing for dermasurgeons to focus directly on the area to be treated and patients to experience virtually no pain or recovery time and enjoy fewer wrinkles and tighter skin.
