Would You Put Snake Venom On Your Face?

Lately it seems like the number of products touted as the newest miracle for your skin has exploded. Every day there is a new product with the solution to all your skin care woes.

But how much truth is there in all of these cosmetic claims? Are you really getting your money’s worth when you put down hundreds of dollars for diamond dust, gold, or caviar (as just some examples)?

Well, what about snake venom?

Sonya Dakar’s luxury line of skin care products covers a number of different conditions and concerns someone might have with their skin. But the most interesting choice for an ingredient comes in the UltraLuxe9 Age Control Complex – which includes a synthetic snake venom complex of Tri-peptide technology. The results, they claim, “collagen stimulation, epidermal contouring, and protection from environmental damage”.

By mimicking the effects of snake venom, your face muscles relax so lines can’t appear. Sound familiar? Yes, this is what we have been hearing each year as the use and popularity of Botox constantly increases.

I’m on the fence about this oneĀ  – on the one hand, I’m sure there’s nothing in the product itself that is going to harm my face. And the compound is of course synthetic. But still, there seems to be something so wrong about rubbing anything that includes snake venom, fake or not, on your face. Especially at $185 a jar.

So, would you try it?

  1. Botoxification

Hmmm … yes, the idea of snake venom sounds icky, but then so does injecting Botulinum into your face .. and if we actually knew the derivation of most chemicals we would probably run shrieking. Hard to know if the idea of snake venom will turn people off, or be a good marketing hook. Time will tell … I didn’t think Botox would catch on, and look where we are now with all those injections. Go figure.

Wow! That’s insane! I don’t think I could use snake venom on my face even if they told me it was they key to the fountain of youth… Snakes seem to be all around in the beauty sphere these days. In fact, snake massages are becoming increasingly popular as well – I could never! –> http://www.spabeautyschools.com/blog/2008/10/31/a-slithery-spa-massage/

Ahhh! That’s crazy! Yeah, I think as close as I want to get to a snake is watching a nature special on TV. And even that is questionable. ;-)

Good point, Botoxification – there have definitely been crazier things women (and men!) have done in the name of vanity and potential wrinkle reduction. I doubt these trends are going to slow down any time soon too, even if people are watching their wallets a little more.
