5 Ways to Reuse or Recycle Old Makeup

recycle makeup

I have a bathroom drawer filled with makeup. My favorites are kept in a cosmetic bag so they’re easy to find. The ones I don’t use anymore are taking up space. The thing is, I feel bad throwing them away. Not only is it a waste, but empty makeup containers lead to landfill. What’s an environmentally-conscious makeup maven to do?

Here are some suggestions for re-using and recycling full and empty makeup containers.

  1. MAC cosmetics has a “Back to MAC” campaign. Bring in 6 empty MAC makeup containers and get a free lipstick in return.
  2. Use old makeup for kids costumes and art projects.
  3. Contractors can use lipsticks or eyeliner pencils to mark wood and drywall.
  4. Contact your drugstore to see if they have a lipstick container recycling program. Many places selling cosmetics also have programs in place to take away the empties.
  5. Contact your local recycle center to see if they accept empty makeup containers.

Just throw them out geez. Make up goes old and forms bacteria, thats why we throw them, why spread bacteria around to other people? I’ve had plastic containers deform when make up goes wrong.
Do the right thing! Don’t spread germs >.>

ummm.. contractors wouldn’t use makeup on a job, lol. my boyfriend wouldn’t and i know so. Most guys (if they are straight) HATE makeup. thats just stupid. Just because eyeshadow is a couple years old doesnt mean you have to spend 80 dollars on a new shade thats bull crap. Im sick of all this mac shit, i cant afford it.

A smart contractor would not use a waxy substance on drywall or wood to mark anything. Finishes would not stick to the area marked with eyeliner or lip liner. Bad idea, Ms. Maven
