‘America’s Next Top Model’ Recap
Episode 10.8 “Top Model 10 Confidential ”
Air Date: April 9, 2008
It all started with the America’s Next Top Model Prep School. Too many girls packed into a “school” with Jay Manuel teaching them the ins-and-outs of expressing themselves via their faces and long limbs. Our top girls made sure they stayed at the top of their game by showcasing their personalities. Whitney has stayed out since day one, and really seems to have what it takes to make it to the end. My favorite part was when all 13 girls were told they’re headed to New York! Oh, the fun beginning of the reality show. How I love thee!
Once the girls hit the Big Apple, they do the ritual of screaming and freaking out over their new living quarters. Tyra points out that for some girls, the hardest part of the competition is learning to live with so many other girls and taking care of themselves. The girls first headed to be critiqued by supermodel Paulina Porzikova and Neil Hammil of Elite Models. Claire was told her hair looked as if it was cut by a lawn mower, and Dominique as compared to a transvestite.
The girls then hit the streets of NYC with a fashion show in Badgley Mischka. Kim decided that walking around in a $500 pair of shorts while toting a $700 handbag just wasn’t for her, so she decided to come forward and let Tyra and the panel know that the modeling world did not interest her. The recap hit on Fatima and Allison’s infamous argument over who was bigger. Can you imagine? Two girls with a size 24 inch waist arguing over who’s bigger. Give me a break.
We revisit the makeover episode with Tyra narrating each new ‘do. Dominique lectured the entire house, and has done so since day one. With a quote like, “I want to be like freakin’ Mother Theresa, but in a diva-like way, OK?,” how can you not be on her side? Easily, I know.
Allison was one of the first to go, and despite her experience she was sent packing.
Amis is one of the highlights of the show, and while watching all of her footage, I really wish she would have stayed around longer. Marvita wasn’t afraid to bare it all, and when you’re that thin and fit, who the heck cares?
The next challenge involved teaching the girls how to change quickly, just as they would have to when changing backstage at a fashion show. The extra footage included watching the firefighters strut their stuff, and as Stacy-ann pointed out, they often walked better than some of the girls. That night the girls went out for dinner and drinks, and this all leads to: the Top Model Showdown!
Taking turns wrestling each other, the girls fought and cheered each other on. Gorgeous girls + alcohol = goofy wrestling, apparently. The next day the shoot took place in a meat locker with giant pieces of raw meat draped on them. The lack of focus, which showed at panel and in pictures, sent Amis out the door.
The girls then went to work with Vendula and Benny Ninja. A battle of the poses began with Benny shouting out, “Commercial! Couture! Catalog!” The extra footage included the girls battling the House of Ninjas. This energy carried over to the house, so Anya whipped out the camera and had every girl pose like crazy. With the guitar that was acquired on one of the challenge wins, Marvita strums away creating a song for nearly every situation that is going down in the house. I find this funny, but I guess if I lived in the house with her, I might be singing a different tune.
Marvita is sent home when she can’t quite find herself when posing. I’m not sure Tyra and the gang could have gotten out of grace out of her, but I did love her raw appeal. Sometimes this is far more interesting than the standard “pretty” girl.
The Claire/Dominique debacle is rehashed with the alarm clock situation. Does anyone else think Dominique looks deranged when she is explaining to us that she doesn’t need to play dirty go get ahead? Her eyes looked like they were about to pop out of her head.
Tyra teaches the girls to walk, and the art of posing with pain. These tips should take the girls far in the long run.
Whitney talks about how she’s here to change the face of the industry as a plus size model. While she may eat at her own will, she wears the weight well, and is hardly plus sized by regular-world standards.
Aimee was the next to leave when she couldn’t quite capture the soul of a R&B singer at the music shoot. Claire was already showing her weaknesses at this shoot, and it would only carry over into the next week.
Whitney takes us through a night out with the girls, where the majority dance on couches. Our sweet little Stacy-ann even escapes with a bottle of vodka! Loves it!
We’re down to seven girls; can you believe it? My favorite is Whitney and I’m ready to see Fatima leave. How about you?
