Jackson men don sequined gloves to Michael's memorial

What do we think of this? A sweet tribute or a tacky sendoff? The Jackson men all wore a single white sequined glove to Michael Jackson’s memorial today. When the camera first panned to them, I scoffed that they were all dressed the same as if they’re still boys performing on The Ed Sullivan Show. It just seemed like such an attention-hungry thing to do during a time of sorrow. Later, I caught a glance of their hands (how I missed them before is beyond me).

Seriously? Did they think we wouldn’t understand how much they love and miss their talented brother?

Just last week at the BET Awards, singer Estelle also donned a sequined white glove in memorial to the King of Pop. It was bad then, but it was worse to see grown men at a memorial service do the same thing! When we pay our respects to someone, we don’t imitate them, we simply remember them for the wonderful place they always held in our hearts. I think the gloves were a bad move altogether. You might also notice how apparent it is that they bought three pairs gloves and had three boys were the right glove, while the remaining wore the left. Classic!

Did anyone else find this “tribute” out of line or am I being too sensitive?

I thought it was nice, and respectful. And I thought 3 left and 3 right, because they wheeled the coffin in and out with one hand, so the other remained free to see. To me, it didn’t seem respectless..although I wish they had visibly shown the same amount of respect when he was alive…but I can’t judge, I didn’t see that; who knows, maybe they did, but not for us to see!

Kathy – I think that’s exactly what happened.

seriously, how come they didn’t all wear gloves on the same hand as Michael did? I sat wondering if they shared pairs to save money.

I thought the glove wearing by the brothers was not distasteful at all, but one last tribute to their late brother by the brothers who worked so closely with him over the early years especially. You could obviously tell they are really grieving over Michael’s departure from this world. I was very touched and moved by the entire memorial service.

The entire memorial was dedicated to MJ. Had they not worn it, would we have thought they were any less respectful? Definitely not. While I cannot say I am suffering the same loss of the Jackson brothers, I do miss Michael very much. That said, do I wear a full-blown embellished military jacket and sequined glove to “prove” how much I miss him. Of course not.

Thanks for stopping by, JimiMac! I was curious if anyone else felt the same way or if I’m just being to sensitive. I definitely am not complaining about them wearing a glove, I just find it too soon.

The sequined glove was the iconic symbol of MJ. It’s a touching tribute to their brother. Every member of the Roots Band wore the same thing last week on Jimmy Fallon and these guys needed two hands to play their musical instruments (ever play a guitar with a glove on!). Singers like MJ can wear a glove. I’d like to see another singer, Bono wear such a glove every once in a while as a tribute to the King of Pop. Besides after the words of his daughter Paris, “I just wanted to say that I loved him so much.”-who could complain about someone wearing a glove?
