Holy shit! Joan Smalls is on the cover of Italian Vogue and there’s no patronizing cover line in sight! We’re so surprised the hashtag isn’t #DIVERSITY (genuinely surprised). …By which we mean the last time a woman of color appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia it was July of 2008. For the “All Black Issue.”
But the fact of the matter remans Smalls is gorgeous and an awesome model. She has deserved a solo Vogue Italia cover for a while now. So, bitterness about infrequency aside, this is great.
Smalls was, of course, shot by Steven Meisel.
