Meet Mike. A long time ago Mike sent me his pic for some feedback, as part of my You Need Help series. Not that Mike really needs help. He was just curious. And I’m all for that.

Well, Mike has a serious style of his own. Totally applaud him for that. He’s a very active reader here at SKB, and comments frequently, which is great! He’s open to playing around with his style and image, so that’s what made this a challenge. I’ve been waiting for the last piece of the puzzle to fall into place and give me the “that’s totally for Mike” vibe. I think I got it today.

And here is my take on Mike… Obviously, I couldn’t layer everything to give you the right idea. Mike has the exact idea on jeans, I wouldn’t change what he’s doing well already. So I wanted to simply find some fun pieces in great colors.
Shirt (via productdose) – Salvage Woven Ignite Long Sleeve in Khaki (I suggest Mexx for similar, but they don’t have a website that I can demonstrate from). It’s a bold graphic print combined with a vertical stripe, which has flare but will make Mike look tall.
Sweater – Banana Republic Silk/cashmere crewneck sweater - Mike can wear blue in a big way. Go for the really strong blues with the punch. Like this somewhat aqua one, or a rich black/blue mix shade.
Jacket – well, I had a jacket all picked out for Mike long ago. Khaki color, blazer cut, but with really great frayed edging. Of course, it seems to have gone AWOL. In it’s place, I’d suggest another spin off the traditional-meets-casual jacket category in the formal end, but in a casual khaki color – 555 Soul Dark Khaki Ram Blazer. For everyday, Mike might also like this one.
To top it off, throw on a bright contrasting scarf, like one in a chunky knit in orange or something like that.
Now, Mike has an amazingly full head of hair, really nice and long, and is not afraid to play with it. He told me he changes the color and style often. Right now, I’d totally go for a really rich chestnut color with lowlights instead of highlights – this gives the brown dimension without making it blond. Dark espresso colors are so hot on guys right now, and Mike has all the right features to pull it off.
I also want to see Mike mess up his ‘do. Make it look more wild.
I suggest the Jared Padalecki look. (CREDIT: DAVID LOGENDYKE / GLOBE) Messy, textured, nice. Great color and style.
Mike – what do you think?

Cool. Looks like we’ve got similar tastes. I’ve actually just come back from my stylist with a new do. Check it out:

I’ll definitely have to keep an eye out for the items you mentioned though. Thanks for the advice and kudos.
