Miss America: Countdown to the Crown episode 4 recap

Miss America: Countdown to the Crown episode 4
Original Air Date: 01/23/2009

We’re in the final week of Miss America: Countdown to the Crown, and honestly, I can’t wait until it’s over. The show has made a complete mockery of the traditional Miss America pageant, and while I thought it would be fun to watch the girls prepare for the pageant, the show is downright boring. There’s no way they could have stretched this show any further!

The final challenge will be a talent show competition (BO-RING!), and surprise – there are EIGHT more gold sashes to be had! Most girls are dancing and singing, but the green team is doing a skit of some sort. This whole thing is really sad to watch. Apparently, the talent portion of the Miss America pageant is what makes it different than other pageants. Uh…and this is a good thing?

Miss American 1981 shows up to help with judging the talent show, and also give the girls some constructive criticism on what they’ve put together so far. Sounds like fun…

The Grey Team wins the old Miss America over (I forget her name: Susan, Sharon or something!), but they’re the only ones. She constantly interrupts the performances. I get what she’s trying to do, but hold it for the end, lady! At least let them get through the performance so you can give all of your advice at once. After all, their skits could have gotten worse. I am so sick of these teams putting together songs. Give me a break! It’s so hokey!

When it comes time for the performances, I’m less than excited. Most of the performances are horrible. The one that is supposed to be “funny” fails, but the consultants seems pleased enough. It’s certainly the most interesting of the night, other than watching the one girl fall while dancing because she didn’t have a contact in.

The judges hem and haw about who they like and who they don’t. The deliberation between these people is always SO INCREDIBLY BORING! No one has an opinion because every challenge is pure junk and never entertaining. What the heck can we say about it? The Green Team wins the challenge, and the other teams are ticked. You can see it on their faces for once! I’m tired of all of the perky teamwork and everyone wanting the best for everyone else. Don’t these girls know this is a reality show and that when that comes into play they should automatically form alliances they’ll ultimately abandon in favor of the cash prize?! LOLZ!

There are two wild card picks before the last Countdown to the crown challenge. Before they are chosen, the girls will undergo makeovers! Aw yeah! The stylist they bring in is a total nutbar, but it’s still fun watching him attack the girls with his vision. I really like the punch of personality he gives the show compared to the rest of ‘em, who are a total snorefest.

Miss D.C. thinks she’s sacrificed some of her integrity when she gave a hair stylist the OK to put a few layers in her hair. Oh lord. The layers will definitely give her hair some texture and make it appear thicker, so I’m not sure what she’s so worried about.

Miss California and Miss Virginia are the first two selected as the wild card, as well as Miss Kansas and Miss Iowa. I bet Miss D.C. is pissed! She chopped her hair just so the one consultant would choose her as a wild card and now look! LOLZ!

Now the girls will walk the runway in cocktail dresses (some of which are HIDEOUS…Miss Delware, anyone?) and answer the inevitable, “Why do you deserve to be Miss America?” Cripes! We hear all about “having heart,” “doing things for the right reasons,” and “I believe I should be Miss America because ____.” It’s actually fun to watch! Finally, this show gets a little entertaining.

I really loved Miss Georgia’s answer, and I think she’s my favorite so far. She’s been consistent, which is always a good thing. Miss Texas is a total embarrassment to my home state! I’m sorry, but it’s true. Having “a passion for the crown” makes you the best fit for Miss America? OK! Miss Iowa’s hair is a total wreck. My god, did she make out with someone backstage before she walked out?!

The girls find out that America will choose the remaining gold sash winners. Polls open at the end of the show, and I think I’m actually going to bother to vote for Miss Georgia. She struck a chord with me and I wish her all the best in tomorrow night’s competition.

Let me know if you voted, and who you voted for and why!

Your comment about Miss Iowa’s hair and whether or not she make out with someone back stage is EXACTLY what we said when we watched the show. That was so freaking hilarious! I can’t believe she made it as far as she did in the competition last night. Serously?! WTF?
