I recently caught the repeat of the Sex & the City cast on Oprah. The interviews were a little boring to be honest, and you just want the girls to BE their characters, not real people (at least I do anyway). Mr. Big made an appearance and the crowd went insane. Cosmos, screams and of course, Oprah were a little too much to handle for an entire hour, so I did some major fast forwarding to the fashion!
Sex & the City movie fashion
Sex & the City costume designer Patricia Field took us into the wardrobe room for the film. Tables and tables of shoes and bags, some literally right off the runway, were flown in for the movie. And remember, Pat Field is a huge fan of vintage, so she used tons of it in the film, along with items costing well into the four digit zone.
The memorable white dress from the opening scene where Carrie is walking in New York City was a vintage gown that Pat took several inches off of to create a mini dress. She also did all kinds of other fun, off-the-wall things with the wardrobe like put Carrie in a romper tucked into jeans. Pat walked by a hanging rack loaded with belts and said she belted nearly everything in the movie because it keeps things feminine. Belts for all!
Just this segment of Pat alone made me want to bust out the SATC DVD! It’s the first thing I’ll do when I have some downtime.
