Style Network Ruby recap "Real Womens Have Curves"

Ruby weighed 477 and she’s down 90 pounds in only six short months! I’m sure those six months didn’t seem so short to Ruby, but that is an amazing amount of weight to lose in that amount of time!

Her best friend Brittany is visiting from California. Brittany is gorgeous and a total sweetheart. She’s completely supportive of her best friend, and jokes that the last time she visited Ruby SHE was the one on the treadmill! With that she decides that Ruby needs to go shopping to get a few new pieces to match her new look.

Ruby is quickly discouraged when nothing in the shops fit her. She feels she’s 90 pounds lighter and should fit into some “regular” clothes for once, but she doesn’t have any luck. Disappointed she leaves empty-handed, and goes home to start up a “Fat Night.”

She calls her closest friends who also have trouble finding clothes because of their weight. The women exchange stories of shopping and receiving clothes as gifts. It’s hilarious and anyone who is over a size 12 can relate. Lane Bryant and company seem to be obsessed with giant prints and bold colors for larger sizes.

Ruby follows up with Dr. Bradley who says she’s “shrinking” right before his eyes. He calls friends over at a design school there in Savannah. The director of the design school says he loves challenging his students, and they seem genuinely interested. They ask smart questions and get real insight into what Ruby wants in her clothes. She wants something hippie with a lot of boho influence. One idea is a dress with a deep v-neck and blouson sleeves.

Ruby hits up the design studio and sees the first version of her new clothes. At first she’s freaked out because of the muslin pieces, but she loves it once she gets it on and sees the silhouette of the top. She comes back 10 days later and sees the entire collection, which she likes a lot. Many of the blouses and tops are winners, but she’s not sure about leggings that don’t get over her calves. After getting some of the other pieces on, she feels better and more fashion-forward than she has felt in a very long time. She gives the design director a big hug and tells the students to remember her face when they’re designing.

Out with friends, we see Ruby in more of the clothes and honestly, they’re too big! I would have loved to have seen her in more body conscious pieces and fabrics, but I’m sure that time will come!
