Anna is a punk rock girl from New Orleans who is anti-everything….especially conventional fashion. She has her own style that’s for sure, but it borders lunatic in pajama pants, goth clothes and sandals that are on their last limb. Anna has lost 50 pounds and is still wearing oversized clothes that fit her years ago. Stacy and Clinton are watching Anna shop at a vintage store, and do the standard bombardment with her friends and family to coax Anna into the makeover. Anna’s personality is a little kooky, so I think this is going to make for good style television.
Anna is looking for a job to keep her going while she lands her dear job as a band manager. She steps into the 360 mirror, and looks a bit…drab to say the least. I like this episode because Anna is really giving Stacy and Clinton a run for their money. At one point she asks them, “Do you guys know what cool is?” Ooh! And Stacy doesn’t have a lot of room to argue with this, as she’s wearing a hideous pink top with a orange bow motif on it…this episode is from 2005, so I guess we’ll give her a break. Anna has a very unsuccessful shopping trip, so the next day Stacy and Clinton show up to help her shop. Anna doesn’t have it down that spending more sometimes means getting more mileage out of pieces. If it fits, if you’ll wear it for awhile, and you aren’t missing your bill payments due to the cost, buy it! Your body and the people who have to look at you will thank you.
Once Anna is in the hairstylist’s chair she’s at the mercy of the scissors, and thank God. Her hair is chopped off with soft brown tones mixed in to lift the inky jet black that is the result of many at-home dye jobs. In the makeup artist’s chair Anna gets a lesson in creating a gorgeous palette to play with color on. True brown eyes like Anna’s pop with emerald green and gold to bring out the warm flecks.
Anna shows off her three looks to Stacy and Clinton and she looks like a totally different person. She looks chic and polished, worlds different from the crazy rocker woman with horrible hair. Stacy and Clinton have taught her how to showcase the smallest part of her torso, elongate her figure, and play with color and embellishments in a way that work for her age and personality. Her friends and family go insane at the big reveal, and Anna admits that she feels great without looking wacky. If only everyone could learn this lesson so quickly.
