Desperate Housewives “Mama Spent Money When She Had None”
Air date: Feb. 8, 2009
Live blog / recap [preview]
Aight, so here’s the deal: Neighbor Peggy and I are watching the ‘wives tonight and commenting about all the events of the show. Some of them might be even witty comments. Check back tomorrow (Monday) for the winners and losers of tonight’s show! (And suggest some of your own if you have ‘em!)
Shall we begin?
I was just trying to get in a Katy Perry performance before Desperate Housewives started, but all I got was Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Guess I can’t be too picky if I prayed for poppy pop and they chose to give me these two instead of Katy. <sigh>
Anyway, forget about the Grammys! DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES TIME!
9:00: The “previously on” leads me to believe that they might bring up the Baby Matt Damon thing again? It made me angry that it was resolved really quickly, so this is kinda necessary.
9:02: Actually, it looks like they brought it up as an excuse to explain why Lynette and Tom are broke.
9:03: If I ever have a book that goes on the New York Times bestseller’s list, I’m going to buy something nicer than a Lexus…right? This is like the middle shelf of the car world. I wanna go top shelf/Grey Goose and get a Lamborghini. Or an ’82 DeLorean.
9:05: M.J.’s kinda creepy …in that Children of the Corn/Village of the Damned-sorta way.
9:09: All this Tom and Foxy the Sports Car stuff is breaking my heart. Some other guy’s out there driving his woman/car! I’m going to go out on a limb here, and say that he’ll get it back at the end of the episode.
9:09: I want more Bob and Lee. Actually, I want an entire Bob and Lee show. Lee would stick his nose where it didn’t belong, in a comical and entertaining way, of course, and Bob would wave his finger at Lee and say, “Ooohh, that Lee!”
9:10: COMMERCIAL. SWITCH TO GRAMMYS IN HOPES OF KATY PERRY. …and get the Jonas Brothers (and Stevie Wonder?? Have they earned that?) <whines> I just waaannt Kaaaaty!
9:13: Yes! The boot camp from the sneak peek. I’m super, super excited for this.
9:15: Peggy just remembers that Susan is a children’s book illustrator. When does she find the time to do it when she’s not sneaking around and doing whiny things?
9:16: I want friends who give me $20,000. That’s…an INSANE amount of money. And Lynette’s being Lynette, coming up with an intelligent way to take the money without ruining any relationships. Let me guess, Bree’s part-ownership still ends poorly?
9:18: COMMERCIAL! SWITCH TO…<sigh> commercialtime on the Grammys, too.
9:22: The Gaby-air-retching bit is HILARIOUS. I’m going to find this clip on YouTube and rewatch it.
9:24: Ah, there are the new pearls from Mike. Good thing Lee’s there to break the fall. “He’s a keeper. Oh, that’s right. You didn’t keep him.” Come on, Marc? Where’s the DH spin-off? It semi-worked for Grey’s Anatomy…
9:27: I love that Susan grabs the pearls right in front of Katherine, without caring that she’s obviously caught.
9:33: Peggy says “they’re fake. I’m calling it right now.”
9:34: They’re fake. Peggy wins. This is the first time I care about Mike and Katherine. Not much, mind you, but a little bit. …which is a little bit more than I did before.
9:36: Drill sergeant looks at Edie with just one glance, and Edie runs into the house after Gaby. Amazing.
9:37: “We came here to support you.” – Edie. Don’t get me wrong. I love Edie’s good thing she has going now, but we need a character on the show to be extra gossipy and mean sometimes. Ohh, that’s right. We do. Susan.
9:39: Peggy and I both agree that Bree’s making her way to the loser list. Fast.
9:44: I’m praying that Lee plays private investigator and gets nosier and deeper in the Dave’s business/evilness.
9:46: “Tell me how the party I threw for you turns out.” – Lynette. HA! And then she hits Bree’s car.
9:48: I love that there’s happy music for Gaby fitting into the dress again. This is what we all should want in our life. OK, so maybe it would be if we all (a) owned a gorgeous dress like that and (b) looked that gorgeous in it.
9:49: WHOA. A little bit of Real Dave sprung out there, after Tom hit him. I’m happy Tom did that, but I have a funny feeling we’ll be seeing more of Real Dave because of it? (and some more sweet Jason Bourne moves?)
9:55: And after the commercial break, we’ve got Mr. and Mrs. Brady sitting in bed reading and talking about the friendship moral of this week’s episode. Peggy: “Am I right to buy that Edie doesn’t sit around reading books?”
9:57: I really like this humbling scene of Susan asking to work/do anything for the school so she can get a tuition break on M.J.’s school. “Congratulations on getting me out of your office.” –Susan.
9:59: My reaction to the ending? “Eh.” Peggy’s reaction? “Lame ending.” I’m kinda blah on this episode. What do you guys think? On one hand, we’ve got pretty Gaby back, and we’re getting closer to finding out more about Dave’s pile o’crazy, but there wasn’t a lot in this episode that made me go “What!” (per usual). And I missed Katy Perry.

does anyone know where i can get still pictures of gaby in that red dress front and back?
im having my wedding dress made to look like that
thanks guys
I don’t think he’ll hurt MJ. He said that he was going to take away what he loved most… Hey wait a minute! You make a good point!
I think someone’s going to stop him or intervene at just the right time, and it’s going to be someone we don’t expect. Mrs. McCluskey? Edie? Tom?
The suspense will be in the season finale — mark my words!
Jamie- I was thinking that too that he would kill the one he loved(meaning Katherine, now). But Mike also killed his child, so do you think Dave will try to do the same with Mike’s child?(MJ)
Heya Jaz —
I think Dave is going after Katherine. He wants to take away from Mike what Mike took from him. And Mike stated in front of Dave a few episodes ago, that he thought he was “falling in love with her” — meaning Katherine.
I have to disagree with you guys about Bree. I am a neat freak and pay close attention to detail too so I can kind of relate to her. Its the only thing she knows.=]
And had to kind of laugh at Tom when he was “threatening” Dave. I don’t think that went as Tom planned it in his head.
My favorite part of this episode was Gabby “throwing up air” but the past 2 episodes haven’t been all that exciting.
I kind of like Katherine a little better than I did before, for agreeing to give away expensive pearls for MJ. If it were someone else like “old” Gaby or “old” Edie in the same position, it would have ended in a physical fight with Susan (Jimmy Kimmel style)
But I still liked Mike and Susan together better. I still hope that their relationship works out, and that Susan and MJ don’t fall victim to Dave’s revenge plot.(my guess is that since Mike killed dave’s wife and child, he is going to try to do the same to mike. and then kill himself) what do you think?
I think this season has been disappointing too.. no real mystery, except when is Dave going to whack someone… the interchanges amongst the women are becoming very predictable.. of course Bree is going to be a butt-insky part owner of the business.. of course Edy is going to get the gang to help Gaby fit into her dress.. of course Susan is going to pull a stunt that makes her look completely stupid… I agree with Holly.. where’s the earlier mystery and the suggestions that had you guessing about w/w/w and w
Gaby’s back! Woooop. Now if she’ll only be super bitchy again.. that was lovely though when she thanked whatshername and gave her a little hug
I did not understand at all when it cut to a shot of Edie and Dave sitting in bed reading. What’s happened to Edie?! I miss her promiscuity. And why didn’t she say anything about Dave ‘knowing it wont last’?
Susan didn’t annoy me too much this episode! It was so lovely when she was begging for any job just for MJ.. aww.
What else happeneddd
Oh yeah, Bree’s being a bitch but I think Lynette’s being slightly over sensitive? And Tom hitting Dave was amazingg haha.
I was just thinking.. the mystery in this Season is pretty shit. We pretty much know all about Dave now and are just waiting for something to happen about it. Although I’m not too bothered because the whole 5 year jump thing gives us lots more to think about.
p.s. Bob and Lee show pleaseeeeeeeeee!!
that would be incredible
Ta as always for the blog xx
The ending was kinda ho-hum, imho. So we’re all in agreement.
But I think the episode was pretty good. We now know that more people know about Dave being all kinds of crazy, and pretty soon — people are going to realize what happened to Mrs. McCluskey was not all in her head. (Remember when she came at him with the baseball bat?)
Next topic:
Bree and Lynette’s friendship.
Susan and Katherine’s friendship.
The friends are becoming enemies. Wow! It’s all too much to absorb at once. My head is spinning!
Onward:
I think either Lee or Bob are gonna get knocked off. I have a bad feeling about Lee playing P.I. It’s gonna get him in trouble.
So, in summary:
We saw the protective side of Tom, a creepier, eerie, morbid side of Dave (as if THAT were a surprise), a softer more caring side of Edie, a humbler side of Gaby, a more controlling, oblivious-to-what-she’s-done side of Bree, an even more assertive side of Lynette, a less whiny, more caring side of Susan, a softer side of Katherine, a walking-on-thin-ice Lee and Bob, a more fed-up Mike, and a put-a-foot-in-his-mouth Carlos.
I think that sums it up.
