Desperate Housewives “In a World Where Kings Are Employers”
Air date: Feb. 15, 2009
Live blog / recap
Aight, so here’s the deal: I usually watch with Neighbor Peggy and we toss some witty banter back and forth about the show. She can’t make it tonight, so I’m just going to have to tell Susan jokes to myself!
Check back tomorrow (Monday) for the winners and losers of tonight’s show! (And suggest some of your own if you have ‘em!)
Shall we begin?
9:00 The “previously on” showed Crazy Dave’s therapist realizing that Mike was in the band. That means we’ll get to see an altercation between them!
9:02: Uh, did Susan just tell Mike to step up and help out? Who is this woman, and what has she done with Susan?
9:03: MJ’s at Katherine’s. I sense a battle over who’s the better mom: Katherine vs, Susan. I think Katherine wins round number one. Two words: blackjack lesson.
9:06: I love how Bree’s family continues getting wealthier and wealthier as her neighbors (Lynette/Tom’s slow business and Carlos not getting a bonus) are feeling the economy. I also wish this was a made-up recession for a TV show, instead of a TV show pulling from reality.
9:09: Tom’s putting his foot down and saying he won’t close the pizza shop. We all know how THAT one’ll end: He’ll apologize to Lynette for being a jerk and they’ll close down the shop. What’re they going to do? Go back to the ad biz?
9:12: “Life is brief and mostly sucks.” Awww, it’s Edie. Foreshadowing, there? I don’t think I can watch her without thinking about what’s going to happen to her :(
9:13: Edie hears buzzing. Is Crazy Dave hiding a crazy vibrator?
9:14: Or a cell phone. That was my next guess.
9:15: Yes! Crazy Dave’s talking to Mike about going camping…this is where it’s going to go down. I don’t really know what “it” is, but I’m awfully excited about it.
9:16: I don’t care how much Andrew makes. I just want it, though I’d blow it all at Ikea instead of on fancy wine. It’d go much farther on Swedish storage systems, anyway.
9:18: Tom’s starting the Scavo Family Sweatshop by firing all the employees and making his kids work for free. Nice.
9:21: Yes! Gaby just saw Boss Man Brad cheating on his wife.
9:26: That worked out so well! Gaby didn’t have to even blackmail Brad for the bonus. He just offers it.
9:27: Not that that’s going to stop her from blackmailing anyway, which she does.
9:29: Ha! Orson’s put Bree’s childhood pets Coco, Taffy and Munchie in burning building and making her choose her favorite.
9:30: So Scavo’s Pizzeria suddenly became busy now that they’re understaffed/staffed by the Scavo Family Sweatshop. Funny how that happens, eh?
9:31: Ah! Lynette just made an erection joke — to her sons, the Baby Matt Damons. Amazing.
9:32: Halfway through the episode and they’re bringing back Mike and Susan’s storyline? It’s like the writers know that I’m not as interested in Katherine/Mike.
9:35: As long as Andrew doesn’t know that Orson’s making half of what he’s making, then what’s the harm? It’s coo, Orson. Just accept what you’re worth! Bree has!
9:38: Tell the wife her husband’s cheating, or keep the $30K bonus and let her think everything’s hunky-dory? What would you do? I have a funny feeling I know what Gaby’ll do.
9:39: M.J.’s still creepy, and man, that kid can’t act. I know, I know, he’s just a kid. I’ll lay off.
9:40: I’m going to say this, and mean it, but I actually think Susan’s acting reasonably to be upset that Katherine’s seeing more M.J. than Mike is.
9:41: The Baby Matt Damons are acting pretty ridiculous, though I don’t know that I’D work for free.
9:42: Holy…whaaaaa?? Tom just went all Crazy Dave on Baby Matt Damon No. 1. No, Tom. That’s not you. You’re Tom, not Chris Brown. What’re you doing? This scene really upset me to watch. Tom was the one man on the show who genuinely was a good guy (sans a few minor mistakes).
9:47: You know, I like that Tom can just say that he’s agreed to sell the place, which is Tom Speak means: “I messed up and threw my kid repeatedly against the wall,” but…it’s not enough for me. He should actually apologize, right? And I’m surprised Lynette’s just letting it slide?
9:49: Ah, sneaky sneaky, Crazy Dave. He scheduled the camping trip the same weekend Edie wanted to go to the fancy hotel. We all know the girl’s got no interest in camping.
9:50: Boss Man Brad’s putting Carlos and Gaby in some pretty rough positions, eh? First the bribe to keep the little indiscretion quiet, and now the godparents thing?
9:56: The producers of this show would be remiss if I didn’t see an episode of “Desperate Housewives” without someone out on the street in a robe/towel/entirely naked. Susan this time, of course.
9:58: Remember that one time I said that Susan was totally reasonable? I lied. Katherine’s not really doing anything dishonest — as she said, she’s being nice to the son of the guy she’s dating. Suck it up, Suze.
9:59: I love Orson’s little defeat: Stealing Andrew’s silver pen. Eh, whatever makes you happy, bub!
10:00: Looks like we’re going to have to wait another week until we find out what happens with Crazy Dave and Mike. This is the one story line I’m really, really looking forward to. What are you guys looking forward to?

I can’t believe we have to wait so long for another new episode. It feels like lately there is only 1 new episode a month or something. I’m not getting enough of this show! But this was a good episode. I think if I were in Gaby’s position, I would have taken the bonus too…except for the fact that it was illegal. I guess she is shamelessly greedy again…that means that the old Gaby is officially back! I have to admit that I missed the crazy situations she would always get herself and Carlos into. =]

Your live blog was fantastic (and hilarious), as always.
Winners and Losers: (Some may be directed at the character. But I live on Wisteria Lane in my mind, sometimes. Is that a cry for help, somehow?) ;-)
Winner: Orson. Sneaky little Orson. He outwitted Bree! How could she not know what he was up to when he was asking questions about her favorite childhood pet? Playing the Porn-Name-Game? Mine would be Felicia Railroad, for the record. Since I’m a man… Let’s not go there. Hehehe
Loser: Susan, dammit! She is so blinded by her love for Mike that she can’t allow her once-dear-friend a chance to become a friend (and potential stepmother) to M.J.? Stop being such a whiny, jealous snob! (I think I’m coming around to your side, Amy — did you drug me?) ;-)
Winner: Lynette. She knows that her family is in danger of losing everything, and she always (well, almost always) makes spot-on decisions that affect the family’s well-being. She knows it’s time to throw in the towel. Sorry, Tom. Your lifelong ‘dream’ of opening a pizzeria was nice — but your family needs to come first. Lynette was the voice of reason here.
Loser: Edie! You’re about to be written off the show. You’re sometimes the voice of reason when others are afraid to speak their minds. So how could you hear Dave’s ‘crazy vibrator’ and be so easily distracted? It could have been a faulty electrical thingeemajig (you want another house fire, without Susan’s help?) and Dave threw you off with the promise of a spa weekend? Hmph.
Winner/Loser: Gaby.
Catching Carlos’s boss cheating? Wow.
Getting some extra cash? Yay!
Not having a conscience? Not good, Gaby. Shame on you.
Loser: Tom. Lost his cool with his kid. Yes, his dream was sinking. Not a reason to pin your kid up against a wall. A good reason to do that would be, oh, say… (I’m having a flashback here… hang on…) I remember an episode way back when Andrew kicked Bree out of the way and her then-husband Rex pinned him up against a wall before they sent him off to boarding school against his will. THAT was a good reason to lose your cool.
Winner: Katherine. She genuinely cares for M.J. You can just tell. And she makes great panini.
Winner: M.J. He’s such a cute kid. “Do we have any probolone (sic)?” Awww!

Other notes:
-I was happy to see all of the Scavo kids at one time, for the FIRST time, since the five-year fast-forward. Nice. :-)
-This wasn’t that great of an episode. A little disappointing, in my humble opinion.
-What am I looking forward to? Dave’s demise, and how they’re going to weave Edie’s impending accident into the storyline. I’m going to miss her. :-(
-Keep on bloggin’ Amy! Looking forward to YOUR winners and losers!
Best,
Jamie
