Eva Longoria is nothing like her Desperate Housewives’ Character Gabrielle Solis who would never involve herself with immigrant issues:
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria is tackling America’scontroversial immigration issues head on in a new film after learningthat fellow Latinos are being roped into slavery.Theactress accepts she has become a role model for the Latin community andshe wants to affect change in the lives of immigrants living well belowthe poverty line in the US.
She says: “I work a lot with theNational Council of La Raza, which is the largest Latino civil rightsorganisation in the country and I work a lot with the United FarmWorkers.
“I’ve been in the fields with these people and I’vetried to experience a day in the life of these people. I’m producing adocumentary on the labour workers.”
Longoria is also concernedabout the implementation of strict new immigration laws, which shefears will repeat a terrible era for America.
She adds: “We’rein this big debate about the future of our immigration laws which iscoloured by the often negative media portrayals of Latinos intelevision and film.
“In the 1940s, after the Great Depression,they did a huge deportation of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans who wereAmerican citizens and I think our administration can’t afford to letthis end badly again.
“Everyone has a right to be treated as a human being. There are slavery lawsuits in Florida right now against some orange growers… The fact that the year is 2006 and slavery’s still happening is insane.” Breakingnews
Eva is your typical nobody. Here is a show that gives her her big break. Who had even heard of her before Desperate? Now all she does is bad mouth them and oh my gosh, she’s still on the show. “Waaah! They didn’t give me a car….they only gave me a 1/4 of a million dollars. I want to do movies…waaah.” Well Eva, you’re an acceptable actress not even a great one. Be grateful for what you have and use your brain before you speak. You’re coming off like an ungrateful bitch.
