I just read that the Felicity Huffman’s movie “Phoebe in Wonderland“ that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, did not get picked up for distribution. I am SO sad! This looked like a really good movie and I wanted to see it.
It seems that quite a few of the Sundance films didn’t get picked up.
And regardless of what some buyers are saying [http://www.portfolio.com/views/blogs/the-hollywood- deal/2008/01/23/sony-classics-bernard-on-bargain-hunting], the slow sales had nothing to do with the quality of the line-up. Having been there, chatter on the street and shuttle stops praised unsold films like Anvil, Mama’s Man, and The Linguists.
“I liked enough things there personally, some of them I think we’ll consider,” says Manis. “A lot of these films will still sell, but it’ll take considerably longer than normal.”
Let’s hope “Phoebe in Wonderland” is one of those films that will eventually sell.
