Leather Shoes That Can Change Color?

color-changing-shoes

Researchers from Taipei unveiled last Wednesday  leather shoes that can change color when they come in contact with sunlight!

Wow.

According to the press release, the shoes work the same way most UV checkers do, just like the UV Checker Mobile Phone Charm I wrote about ages ago, sometime year 2007 (Woohoooo!).

The shoes start out with white in color and it gradually changes to pink, orange or purple depending on the ingredient sprayed on the leather and the amount of UV rays the leather is absorbing.

Currently, the color changing feature can last up to 60 hours. But since that’s just the initial experiment, maybe the Taiwanese researches can make it last longer!

If the technology becomes stable and successful enough, the Taiwanese research institute is planning to pass this invention to shoe factories, making color changing handbags and other leather goods possible!

Very interesting! Though I’m a little bit worried about the kind of chemical that is being sprayed on the leather. It could be bio-hazardous, you know! But anyway, this news is still pretty awesome. Maybe they would discover a way to make it change to other colors aside from the ones mentioned.
