During his speech at the launch of the Year of Food and Farming, Prince Charles cited a study conducted by British government scientists to emphasize the need for more natural foods, especially for children. The study linked hyperactivity in children and artificial food additives.
In part of his speech, the Prince of Wales said “We are, after all, what we eat and if this Year is about anything, it is to teach children to care about good, slower food, not fast food.” And that there is a need to “rescue today’s generation of over industrialised children and installing in them a life-long arreciation of food and the way it is produced and reconnect them with Nature so that they may have a better understanding of why it is so precious to the health and well-being of each and every one of us.”
The Prince has always been passionate about organic farming and the environment. The kids he took on a tour around his organic garden surely won’t forget it easily. I hope they will try to eat more healthy food after his visit. Their moms would now have a reason to remind them to stay away from artificial food: “Remember what the Prince told you?”.
Royal Trivia: The Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire, England is the country home of The Prince of Wales. The entire estate is a showcase of environment-friendliness and has been fully organic since 1996. (source)
