Prince Philip was brought to the King Edward VII’s Hospital last Thursday afternoon for a chest infection. He last appeared in public during the visit of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. He had missed Wednesday’s memorial service for Sir Edmund Hillary because of a bad cold. It appears that the cold worsened and progressed to a chest infection.
Prince Philip was strong enough to walk into the hospital unassisted. He is also reported to have done a bit of work from his hospital bed, answering correspondence and such. He is being treated by the Queen’s physician, Dr. John Cunningham. None of the Duke of Edinburgh’s engagements for next week have been cancelled, suggesting that the Palace expects him to be out and about by then.
I wish him a quick recovery and a good rest to regain his strength.
