Several news sources are reporting that Prince William surprised long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton with a candlelit dinner in a log cabin once owned by the Queen Mother.

The pair have been staying at Birkhall with Prince Charles and Camilla to ring in the New Year before Prince William starts his training with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Unit.
The Daily Mail has a detailed account of the romantic dinner, with the “candles to light it up and the sound of the river roaring outside”, and a photo of the log cabin.
After several months of quiet on the Prince William-Kate Middleton engagement news front, we are suddenly barraged with report after report of the couple being together and romantic too. Might we expect an engagement announcement soon? Kate’s 27th birthday is on Friday, January 9. A sparkly ring would be a great birthday present from Prince William.
