The Queen on YouTube

She may be Britain’s oldest ever Monarch, but she isn’t behind the times at all. Queen Elizabeth II is now the newest Royal Star on YouTube.

Buckingham Palace has launched the Royal Channel, the official channel of the British Monarchy on YouTube. There’s a wealth of interesting clips and information in the 18 videos that have been posted. Video archives and more recent footage of the royal family are included.

This December is the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s first ever televised December 25 speech, which was delivered live in 1957. Her statement then about “this new medium” seems as fresh now as it was 50 years ago:

“I very much hope that this new medium will make my Christmas message more personal and direct.

“That it is possible for some of you to see me today is just another example of the speed at which things are changing all around us.”
