Here it is! The last winners and losers of the YEAR. I’m hot and cold with this episode, but one thing’s for sure…they left us with some HUGE cliffhangers and you guys have been AWESOME at speculating who could be killed. For now, though, we can speculate on the people who won this episode — and those who lost. Because you had so many suggestions, and because, well, I couldn’t make up my mind, we’ve got four of each!!

WINNERS
Susan: How many weeks has she been a winner now?? This is just unheard of. That, or, the DH gods have been listening to my whining about her…whining. Susan literally has grown up before our eyes this season and gotten a lot more mature with her friendships and her relationship with Mike, too. Showing compassion to a woman who wants nothing more than to sabotage her marriage really cements Susan as a winner in my book. Plus, as @Jaz pointed out, how gorgeous did she look in this last episode?? Hair wasn’t stringy, she didn’t have any weirdo outfits. Way to get your act together, Susan.
Orson: You guys all said it — for the first time since he and Bree met — we felt compassion for this man who we’ve only seen as sniveling, underhanded and manipulative (and not in all the good ways that his wife might also have all these qualities). He had every right to come after Karl with a candy cane, and if Karl dies, it’ll be interesting to see where his story goes from there. I’ll be willing to bet that he and Bree come back together (not right away, of course) over this tragedy.
Angie: Doing everything she can to protect her family, and yes, herself, put Angie on the winners’ list as far as I’m concerned. I don’t mind that she let Mona stay behind as she took off running. When she realized her son gave the jig up, she wasn’t angry at his mistake — she immediately went into survival mode. We still have no idea what happened to the Bolens, but we do know that she’s proven to be a strong, loving and caring matriarch of that family. The Godmother, if you will.
Lynette: I maintain that Lynette’s done nothing wrong in this whole pregnancy-lying-suing-Solis-Scavo debacle. The stupidness between her and Gaby during this episode was a bit much for me to handle, but her jumping in to save Celia without even thinking shows how petty their argument was and, as @Jamie put it: “Mother’s instinct is a beautiful thing.”
Keep reading to see the losers!
LOSERS
Katherine: Did ALL of you put her as a loser? I think @EvilTurtle put it best: Katherine is the “BEST LOSER EVER.” The all-caps is totally necessary on that. We’re all talking Emmys with Dana Delany on this one, and rightfully so! She’s a loser because of just how far gone she is. We’ve really seen the climax of Krazy Katherine’s krazy…and I know from here she’ll get help and begin to get better. Either that, or she’ll be MIA for the rest of the season.
Mona: This woman should be before everyone on this list. The amount of manipulation she had in her before she the plane clothes-lined her is just…unbelievable. She’s got more ability to guilt than my Jewish mother after I brought home a Catholic on Chanukah. And at least my mom shows some remorse. Mona? None. It was just, “Man, how’ma gonna git my $67k?” …and to accept Angie’s wedding ring? I don’t want to say she deserved to be swept off her feet, but…………..
Jeff and Daphne Bicks: These two lose for a few reasons. For one, they crashed a plane into a bunch of people on a street. Seriously, Daph, your husband owns a small airline business and you have NO idea how to turn the plane’s steering wheel away from the one street with humans on it? Also, your marriage is horrible, you argued too much, you’re both cranky, and you killed off a character or two or three or four of five that we’re all inevitably going to be devastated by. Lose, lose, lose!
Karl: I couldn’t agree more with @RenatoB, who pointed out that Karl was planning to propose even though no one knew (except Susan) that they were seeing each other, or that she had filed for divorce from Orson, for that matter. And if I’m going to point blame at the Jeff/Daphne Bicks for flying the plane into Wisteria Lane, then I’ve got every right to place blame on Karl for hiring the plane in the first place. And I am.

i loved all the comments of this topic ! so why don’t i give an opinion ??!
here are my best seasons in order from lowest to the highest :
6- season 3 : i don’t hate it but i hated the way it ended : the mystery was solved so early, and i was expecting a lot after “bang” but i was disappointed ! but it is a very good season
5- season 5 : oh my god, every episode made me so angry, i hated the mystery so much, i had nothing to wonder about ! and i hated to see susan and mike split up AGAIN, and marc cherry, if you were planing to do it again, just let me tell you that F.R.I.E.N.D.S. did it and we hated it ! it becomes a lousy storyline ! but it wasn’t a bad season, i actually loved these episodes so much : 5×05, 5×08, 5×12, 5×13, 5×18, 5×19, 5×23, 5×34 .
4- well season 2 for sure ! it’s like they took a break ! it had one of these freaky characters, george williams .
3- season 4 : oh my god, i loved that season, i keep missing those episodes to never be realised ! you know the episodes they were planing to do, but then there was a writers strike .
2- season 6 : loving it, loving it, loving it, loving it, loving it .
1- season 1 : amazing, just amazing !!!
soz jj543 as i dont agree i think t best season is season 6 and also i feel your pain my friends hate when i talk about desperate housewives but come on its amazing. i cant wait till january iknow he is dead but i love karl and i am praying for a mirical a it is near christmas but u know and tyler i agree susie Q is lol and i cant stand it when mike and susan arent togther plus could not stop loling when susan shot cathrine i know it might sound mean but lol. i love desperate housewives so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) kathrine
(i hate her)
I’m not really LOVIN’ this years mystery as much as previous ones. Last years was kinda sucky but like the WHOLE SEASON was ALL ABOUT Dave’s mystery. Like seriously every single episode! This season’s mystery reminds me of season 2. The Appelwhites. The mystery was like ya know kind of interesting but it wasn’t always interfering with the main characters lives in EVERY SINGLE episode like season 5, and i kinda like it better. I heard Cherry say that one of the housewives may be involved with the mystery in one way or another (of course) and i’m hopping it’s Gaby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s always Susan or Bree involved with the mystery character (Susan & Mary Alice, Bree and the Appelwhites, Bree and Orson, Susan and Katherine, Susan and Dave.) and it’s always Lynette who has the most dramatic, serious and sometimes deadly cliffhanger scenes. Gaby has some serious scenes which are hilarious but still, she needs more drama. Not “OMG we’re broke, OMG I’m cheating, OMG he’s cheating” drama like before, but i’m talking “OMG my life is in serious danger drama!!!!! I hope she has something to do with it.
HOwever, it wasn’t until this episode that i really started to “get into” Angie’s mystery. The actual character of Angie has continously grown on me but it wasn’t until the terroirism thing was revealed that i actually cared about the mystery.
PS: We saw Mona drop the cash after she was hit by the plane but what happened to the ring. Angie will probably retrieve the money but whatever happened to that ring???
PPS: I see we were talking about favorite seasons? I’ve thought about it and here are my fav seasons in order from lowest to highest:
Sixth Place:
Season 5: (I mean come on. Edie DIED in this season. Like for real died so that should be enough of a reason right there. Plus the Dave mystery took FOREVER and Susan and Mike divorced is just wrong)
Fifth Place:
Season 2: (I don’t know why. It was like a nothing special season if you ask me. Don’t get me wrong! Good season just… not as good as the ohters.
Fourth Place:
Season Six: (Thus far, it’s been really good! I’ll get back to ya on the season finale to review how i liked it as a whole season.)
Third Place:
Season 3: (That season was awesome. The Orson storyline was so interesting. Gaby’s storylines where the BEST in this season and it was just really great!)
Second Place:
Season 1: (I love how something new and interesting and exciting and revealing happened in every episode. It was all about the Mary ALice mystery and every episode gave another interesting peice to the puzzle. Plus, it’s the season that started it all…)
FIrst Place:
Season 4: (I LOVE THIS SEASON! Who cares if it only had 17 episodes. Each one was AWESOME! Katherine’s mystery was the best of the whole series! The episodes leading up to the tornado were great. The tornado itself was the best episode of like the whole series basically. (I have every line memorized from that episode. That’s how much i love it! And the episodes that followed the tornado about Katherine’s mystery lead up to the greatest finale ever. A+ season.
Okay i’m off topic. But once i start talking about Desperate Housewives, i never shut up. Just ask any of my friends who get very annoyed with me.
@Tyler: Dixie Carter was probably the best periodic guest star of the whole series. Valerie Mahaffey was great too. Season three had the best guest stars in my opinion, with Dougray Scott, Matt Roth, Kiersten Warren and Laurie Metcalf, who were all phenomenal.
This season, however, hasn’t featured all that many guests, too bad. They did announce last year that because of the budget cuts at ABC, guest stars would be mostly dropped. Maybe that has something to do with why Kathryn Joosten is now a regular (which I didn’t think would ever happen).
No worries. I understood
Wow, that should have read, could not agree more, Jamie! My apologies.
Could not agree, Jamie! This season is one of my favorites. The others being season one of course, and season three. (I LOVE Dixie Carter)
Also you’re right because not having this show on air for a month is going to kill me. I guess I’ll have to watch the DVDs.
FANTASTIC choices and observations, as always. I picked Katherine as a “winner”, but sometimes they ‘wives are such a part of my life (oh, admit it folks — it’s like you’re not getting to see a close friend with this month-long wait!), I find it hard to differentiate between the character and the actor or actress. This season is really one of the best; or at least that’s how it’s shaping [up].
This episode was one of my favorites. Sure the plane crash wasn’t stellar, and sure the build up was a bit slow, but I loved it. I thought the banter between the pilot and his wife was hilarious! I’m bummed that Karl is more than likely the dead one, because he’s always been a “fan favorite” of mine. I will miss his “Susie Q” moments and his obnoxiously but wonderful male chauvinism.
My roommate and I were both saying how beautiful Susan looked in this episode and this season, period. We’ve never been HUGE Susan fans, but how could you not this season? Something about her has grown up and I’m so proud of her.
I’m more interested than ever in the Bolen mystery. I love the tease! We still know so little. (Mostly because the son has the same name as me, and that never happens).
Finally, I will just say Dana Delany deserves an Emmy. That is all. End of story.
“Plus, as @Jaz pointed out, how gorgeous did she look in this last episode?? Hair wasn’t stringy, she didn’t have any weirdo outfits. Way to get your act together, Susan.”
….And she didn’t remind me of the spider mom version of herself from Caroline. Sometimes she looks too thin, wrinkly and saggy to me, but not on this episode.
Wouldn’t that be great if Katherine ended up in the same place as Crazy Dave from last season? But I don’t think that’ll happen since I’m pretty sure Dave went to prison….right?
The writers screwed up when Bree said “You’re pregnant?” to Lynette. I mean, shes wearing a tight shirt and shes 5 months pregnant with TWINS. It would be obvious that shes pregnant. Even if the shirt was loose, you could still tell.
Loved this episode. I’m a little sad because now all I have to look forward to on Sundays is Keeping up with the Kardashians.(which I also LOVE, but you can’t compare the two.)
I hope you keep us updated during the break. =]
