The royals arrived at Christianborg Castle in order of succession to the throne. Thus, Princess Benedikte, the Queen’s younger sister, arrived first, followed by Prince Joachim and his wife Princess Marie. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary came after them, and last, Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark talks with Sudanese refugee children at the Lama Refugee Camp in Uganda.

Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary is in Uganda this week to carry out engagements related to the Danish Refugee Council, of which she is patron.

Princess Mary arrived in Uganda on September 28, 2008 and will stay until October 4. Among the places that she has already visited are:

• Mulago Hospital in Kampala, which provides HIV/AIDS health services to refugees. The Princess talked and played with the children in the hospital’s Child Care Room.
• Redeemer Childrens Orphanage, the home of 79 orphans from both Sudan and Uganda. During her visit here, children moved the Princess to tears with songs and stories of their suffering.
• Lama refugee-camp in Mojo which houses refugees from Sudan.

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik visited Rodvig Stevns in southern Denmark, to officially open the Stevns Fortress Cold War Museum.

Stevns Fortress is a once-secret underground facility that is considered Denmark’s most significant contribution to NATO security. Located 18 meters below the ground, it was built in 1953 during the Cold War to guard against a Soviet naval invasion coming from the Baltic Sea. It was in operation until 2000, when it was converted into an Air Force training facility.

Prince Frederik was joined at the opening ceremony by Denmark’s Minister of Justice Brian Mikkelsen, Stevns Mayor Poul Arne Nielsen, Vice-Mayor Lars Asserhoj,  Oestsjaellands Museum’s Chief Tove Damholt, municipal manager Per Roner, Chairman of the Museum Board Jens Carl Jorgensen, Stevns Fortress project leader Anders Berthelsen and 700 spectators.

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have returned to the city where they first met.

The royal couple, who were introduced to each other during the 2000 Sydney Olympics, visited the new Victor Chang Lowy Packer Building at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. The multi-million dollar center includes a cardiac research institute.

Princess Mary, who is patron of the Danish Heart Association, is Honorary Life Governor of the Victor Chang Research Institute. She opened the new research center on the morning of Wednesday, Septemer 3, 2008.

“It was with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation to open the Victor Chang Lowy Packer Building that will not only house the Victor Chang researchers but also scientists from St Vincent’s Hospital,” she said.

During the opening ceremony, Princess Mary met with New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma and Filip Knop, a Danish scientist who works in the center under the Prince Christian Fellowship.

Later in the day, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary enjoyed a celebratory dinner at the center. They were said to have dined on kingfish, prawns, grain-fed beef and semolina gnocchi.

The dinner was held at the National Gallery of Victoria to help launch a campaign to promote online safety for children. Princess Mary is the patron of the charity for children’s welfare. Also present at the event was Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Premier of Victoria John Brumby and child bullying experts Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg and Professor Donna Cross.

This next one is my favorite of the set. I love Prince Frederik’s expression, as he leads Princess Mary on his arm.

Prince Frederik remained in Beijing for a few more days. He was reported to have enjoyed a raunchy party or two, in his wife’s absence.

Danish Crown Princess Mary shops for diapers in Hobart

With the family now complete in Mary’s hometown of Hobart, they’ve been enjoying a private holiday with Mary’s family. They have been staying with Mary’s sister, Jane Stephens. In addition to meeting their mom’s family, the kids have also been able to see some of Australia’s wild life close at hand.

The Australian-born princess and her husband Crown Prince Frederik are in Beijing, having arrived earlier this week. The royal couple attended a reception for the Australian Olympic team at the Sofitel Wanda today, August 7, 2008.

Princess Mary is confident that the Olympians from Down Under will give a strong showing at the Games.

“I’m sure the Australians will do very well at the Olympics as they always do,” she told the Seven Network at the reception.

“And I’m looking forward to following them, when they’re not competing against the Danes.”
