Fashion’s Night Out is a unique opportunity for brands to purchase cool points by inviting “buzzy” musicians to play at their temples of capitalism for hangry people in too-tight clothing. In exchange, said bands receive enough money to keep them in pizza and beer for several months, and probably some swag as well, if they’re shameless like that. As a dual citizen of the ladyblogging and music journalism nations, I’ve taken it upon myself to assemble a list of the most entertaining artists playing. Go forth and rock, ye brave people of New York. More »

Electronics company HTC’s press event at Townhouse Spa yesterday was a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows that left me cold and anxious, but ultimately very well manicured. It started off pleasantly enough; various fashion blogger types munched on fruit and mini-sandwiches and sipped champagne while female representatives from HTC talked about their newfangled Internet-phone thingy in terms us girls could understand. They quoted one lady-blogger as saying the phone’s matte black plastic casing was “like chocolate” (women love chocolate!)…. More »
We get invited to parties. Yes, people like us and want to invite us to things and give us free stuff and food and drinks. And we like you people back. But here’s the thing. There are some really cool events out there that we’re missing out on. We know we’re missing out on these events because we found you. With the power of the Internet, we found some of the coolest organizations out there to find out what parties they host each year. And we want in. More »
You know what they say about Tennessee — Tenne-seein’ is Tenne-believin’.
Well, believe this. With damage from the Nashville flood reportedly surpassing $1 billion, the community is working to raise funds through some creative donation events.
One such event is a hair cut-a-thon, about which Lilit openly wondered if the hair would be donated to make a mat to soak up the oil. And while the snarky side of me says that I would not want any kind of “a-thon” attached to… More »

Check out this totally cute Phoebe Couture strapless party dress – it’s one of many fabulous evening dresses on sale for at the ideeli eveningwear sale today.
And it’s a super-great sale: This dress is marked down to $99, normally $352. At that price, you don’t have to feel guilty wearing a different dress to every upcoming formal occasion.

After this weekend, I won’t be home very much for about a month – I’m going on a cruise launch in a few days, and then I’ll be in China until Thanksgiving.
There’s something about traveling – even when your laptop and major credit cards are coming with you – that make you want to be ultra-prepared before you leave. Who wants to be flying over the Pacific and realize they forgot their must-have favorite bra that works so well with… More »
About a year ago, I was at a bar – of all places – and saw a friend’s shoes. She revealed to me they were from a line named Melissa, and beside being crazy adorable, they were like NOBLE.
Noble, you say? Yes. Because while I was admiring how cute they were, I discovered they were plastic!
Brazilian brand Melissa has informed me that plastic is indeed fantastic.
(And honestly, Brazil is like the capital of plastic surgery, the Brazilian blowout, Brazilian bikini… More »
This morning, I attended a breakfast for the fabulous Nescafe Dolce Gusto – it’s a premium single-serve coffee maker, but it’s designed to bring a little “haute” coffee to small-space design. Perfect for us fashionista city girls.
I’ll write more about it later – I am a major fan – but I wanted to write here about the inherent message – how the delicacy is in the details. Just as I may not be able to afford to revamp my kitchen,… More »

I have to admit, I didn’t even know Verrier existed before I saw their Fall/Winter 2009 collection at New York Fashion Week, but the second I encountered their high-waisted dresses, skirts and pants that celebrate French-influenced femininity, I was hooked.
With circular motifs that are reminiscent of umbrellas dance across dresses, “flower bombs” at heart and hip, and in another bright-red polka dot jacquard that offers sweetly sophisticated three-quarter-length, above-the-knee proportions, it’s just so delightfully girlie, I could die.

How have I not talked about the Red Dress Collection yet???
Fashion Week is only three days old, but so far, the most meaningful experience (by far), was attending Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection show Friday morning. (With fabulous seats, I must add.) The event is a few years running – it has gone on since 2002, in order to help promote awareness of heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in America.
First things first – see, at… More »
My world has begun to exist exclusively for what is going on in Bryant Park. (Well, OK, that is not exactly true – but I have been spending a LOT of time there the last few days!)
An exciting result of the recession (yes, you read that correctly) is a lot more wearable fashions. This was especially the case at the Lela Rose show, where she debuted the latest footwear in her Lela Rose for Payless line.
The Fall ’09 line will… More »
I confess, generally when I think of high fashion, it’s not JCPenney – but sort of like looking at an old friend and suddenly becomes super hot, making you realize how totally you were missing out, I had a similar experience earlier this week when I kicked off my Fashion Week festivities a few days early by checking out the JCPenney runway at the premier Espace in New York City.
The fashion showcase of its Spring 2009 exclusive designer collections included… More »
As Inauguration Day is in the final countdown, we expect the first family will “step it up” with a fresh take on fashion. First lady Michelle Obama has already shown us a glimpse of her original style, but here’s some suggestions from Anne Crays, vice president of merchandising and fashion forecasting for Shoebuy.com, for the first couple that look presidential and fit budgets in today’s economy. Michelle’s look especially will be fun to follow, I think her style will… More »

I believe just about all of us shopaholics have a fascination with Project Runway. So, imagine my excitement when I went to a media breakfast sponsored by Secret Deordorant – and discovered the special guest host was Korto, one of my favorite contestants from last season!
I can’t get into the contents of the event – it’s super exciting info that’s under embargo till spring – but I can tell you about the fun part! Korto led all of us in… More »
Super Bowl parties are one of the top at-home party events of the year and have become much more than a gathering of football lovers, but a time to dissect the ads, eat party snacks and hang with friends. In fact, many people attending these parties do not necessarily love the teams playing as much as they love the excuse to get together with friends after a very cold month. So whether you are a diehard NFL fan or just… More »
