Maison Martin Margiela Aviators

Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most mysterious designers in the fashion world today. The Belgian designer who started the line keeps an extremely low profile and I just found out that he actually never allows his picture to be taken and stays entirely backstage during his fashion shows. The designer label that bears his name uses a numbering system for categorizing their pieces, and Eyewear is the number 8.

Before the classy aviators, the only Maison Martin Margiela sunglasses that I’ve ever seen in the fashion world were the mono-lens super funky visor sunglasses that were released in summer 2008. The mirrored lenses were the craziest (or most fashionable?) option and had a disctinctly futuristic robot vibe. The L’Incognito sunglasses were the first design in the “8″ line of eyewear, and more visor mono-lens goggle-inspired styles soon followed.

Maison Martin Margiela Incognito Assemble Aviators $615

These 2010 Maison Martin Margiela Incognito Assemble Aviators are completely different from the previous “8″ styles. I actually love this and could see them working as a timeless piece for both men and women. The design is a simple adaptation to the classic gold metal aviator with acetate tortoise shell frames that wrap only the outer half of the lenses. The mirrored lenses are two-toned in gold and brown. This design is a collaboration with the Italian company Marcolin.

The Incognito Aviators are (surprisingly) available online at La Garconne, but I expect they will sell out extremely fast. Priced at a Margiela-worthy price of $615, these are probably the most expensive sunglasses that I’ve seen in a long time. But I do think they are quite amazing….

What do you think of this unique “babushka” style hat by Tokyo designer Valeur? Again, I am super excited about discovering transformer styles that offer multiple uses for one piece. This ultra soft handmade lacy knit triangular piece wraps beautifully around the head or can be worn around the neck as a short knit stole. The “babushka” style is very unique and offers a new idea about modern cold weather hats.

Valeur is a designer from Tokyo who creates soft and beautiful handmade hats with unique designs that incorporate ideas of warmth, personal style, and value. For Fall Valeur has lots of wrapping hats that have the look of a knit headband or scarf but that offer the warmth of a hat.

This cute wool knit turban is another unique style that I interpret as a combination of a wide headband and a knit hat that creates a fashionable look for Fall. The best part is that it is reversible and features a heather gray jersey with blue polka dots fabric on the other side, but I couldn’t find an image of it anywhere!

La Garconne is one of the only online retailers where I was able to find Valeur hats, and they only have a small selection. You can visit Valeur’s website to find locations around the world where their hats are available.

Chloe Tamaris Aviator Sunglasses

These Chloe Tamaris Sunglasses at La Garconne are my favorite aviator sunglasses that I have found this summer. I absolutely must have them! The colorful plastic aviators have been one of the hottest styles of the summer, but if you want a more sophisticated style that will be popular for years to come, the traditional metal aviators are possibly more your style.

Chloe Tamaris Sunglasses in White $290

These sunglasses have a traditional aviator style and shape with thin gold frames and brown gradient lenses. The special Chloe touch is the addition of real leather and metal rivets at the temples and on the bridge. The leather is such a small detail, but adds such a unique and modern design element to the aviator frame.

The sunglasses are available with white or brown leather details. I love them both! The brown leather would look great for men or women.
