It’s happening, you guys. That “sheer dress over hot pants” trend that’s been on the rise for quite some time is catching on more and more with celebrities, and I still can’t decide if I like it. More »
Tantalizingly cheap fast fashion chain H&M has just released their fall 2012 look book, and as usual, it contains a mixture of things I would fight someone for and things you couldn’t pay me to wear, weighted heavily towards the latter. (There are also a bunch of boring pieces to which I react neutrally, but those aren’t fun to blog about.) Here are the best and worst looks from their upcoming collection. More »

The New York Times‘ lifestyle pieces have a reputation for occasionally stating the obvious–as Brian Williams once famously noticed. These past two weeks, however, have given us a delightful one-two punch of Times‘ discoveries no one needed. More »

Did you know your beloved tapered pants are slowly draining the life out of you like a sexy, slimming anaconda? It’s true; the Wall Street Journal said so. Furthermore, did you know there are loads of even worse things coming that will kill you even faster and more effectively? Trends are great like that, always trying to top each other. Here are ten articles of clothing (both currently popular, and coming in 2013) that will almost definitely inflict severe harm on that frail physical vessel you call a body. You’ve been warned. “Beauty at Burberry Prorsum was all about recreating an unassumingly sexy and ‘worn’ look,” reports WWD from yesterday’s Burberry show at London Fashion Week. Makeup artist Wendy Rowe created the look using eye colors from Burberry’s beauty collection (natch), which she described as something for “a girl who has been out and about in the city and then she is going to the countryside.” More »
Earlier today on Refinery29, I read about how baby bangs are making a comeback, and felt conflicted. This tough-to-pull-off fashion statement has been around in various forms for quite some time, popping up most recently in fashion’s current favorite era, the early 90s. Things being as they are, they’re coming back around now, creeping beyond the heads of cool art school girls who work at custom sneaker shops in Mexico City and onto the heads of celebrities and the masses. They can look pretty great on the right person, but otherwise, they’re abjectly terrible. Take a look at some photos of them and you’ll see what I mean. More »
Holy shit it’s Fall. You know what that means? Out with the bronzers, the towering SPFs, the NARS Orgasm Illuminator… in with a face that–judging from the Fall 2011 runways–actually just looks like a paler version of the Spring face: bold lips, fresh skin, defined brows…? Well, there’s definitely something wearable for every skintone, so that’s a start. Anyway. TheGloss has handpicked some of Fall 2011′s major beauty trends and assembled the following guide, which features a bunch of really solid beauty buys, from drugstores and beyond. More »
Fashion month has happened and we’re still picking up the pieces from the Spring 2012 shows. Coming up on TheGloss, we have some breathlessly thorough beauty guides for Fall (you know, the actual season we’re in) but for the moment, let’s just review some of those pretty, pretty Spring dresses. Here’s our top 25 frocks of fashion month, from Alexander McQueen to Rodarte to Gareth Pugh, with all the crazy prints and textures in between. More »
Today’s our last day of rounding up the trends of Spring 2012 from NYFW, so we figure we’d cap with something that everyone can wear regardless of skintone, body type, height etc: monochrome. Bold, graphic black and white was all over the Spring 2012 runways (whether it was minimal at Yigal or pretty prints at Preen) and we’re pleased with that because it’s always a fresh combination. Here’s our 10 favorite looks. More »
Spring is reliably the time for two things: floral prints and airy dresses in white. True to form, NYFW saw no shortage of prints–of every kind–and plenty of the LWD (the LBD’s humidity-friendlier cousin). Here’s the 10 on our wishlist, from Gatsby dreams at Ralph Lauren to draping at Doo.Ri to minimalism at Helmut Lang… and this razor sharp number above from Cushnie et Ochs. More »
Spring is the time for prints: florals, usually, and this past fashion week saw some weirdo forays into Hawaiian. However, three of the biggest trends to emerge for prints weren’t actually about flowers: we saw geometric patterns, plenty of ombre and animals. …I don’t mean leopard spots or tiger stripes, but prints of animals: birds, butterflies, even a few zebras. Let’s take a look. More »

Reed Krakoff has only been showing for a few seasons now, but the Coach creative director is already refining his easy, effortless spin on wearable minimalism. Aside from some creative use of cellophane, his collection was all about neat lines, solids and a bit of bright colorblocking. However, this white suit is louche and effortless in all the right ways, which is to say it may be draped softly but it still cuts a clean line. One of those fantastic Boxer bags is the only embellishment it needs. More »
