It’s January 18th. Don’t think we’re not on to you. You’re about to quit your New Year’s resolutions, aren’t you? It’s not even February! You should be ashamed. To help fuel that shame, here are seven reasons you will try to give yourself for skipping the gym. None of them are acceptable: More »
By this point, I’m assuming we’ve all heard about Shake Weights, the dumbbell that moves, making it look like the user is giving someone a handie then waiting to take a cum shot to the face.
I don’t think I’d use one, beacuse I would feel violated and disturbed. But what about you? Would you use it? Or do you already, you “fit” girl? More »
Friends, I’m going to take a break from the discussion of fun stuff like my SJP brunch and lighted vanity mirrors to talk about something rather serious.
Few people know this — I cover surprisingly well — but I suffer from the “winter blues”, otherwise known as seasonal affective disorder.
While many people enjoy the snowfall and crisp cold weather in the cooler months, an estimated 10-20 percent of Americans (that’s MILLIONS) experience some form of winter blues, a phenomenon that results… More »
As you know, a big part of my travel writing is experiencing the beauty and spa treatments of other cultures.
I love to visit other parts of the world – or even our own country – and enjoy luxurious experiences that I can then take back to my own side of existence. (And share with all of you!)
That was very much the case when I was in St. Lucia last month and experienced my first Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage at the… More »
Just in case you had any doubt I have the most bizarre – yet awesome – job in the world, check out the cameo I made in Fixodent’s Circle of Confidence video.
Note, I did not contribute to this project in any meaningful way. I actually just sat there and drank. It’s what I do when I have no idea what to say, or what I’m talking about.
The message of this video is actually really important, and no joke, though. Essentially,… More »

Raise your hand if you New Year’s resolutions included losing a few pounds.
Everyone did, because all of us gained more-than-a-few pounds in December. Especially me, who went through the Christmas week stage of wine and rainbow cake every night.
The key to losing weight and keeping yourself accountable – well, there are a few keys – but ONE key – is a good scale!
One scale I’ve been considering is the aptly-named (and based on the TV show) Biggest Loser Lithium Digital… More »
As I am coming off a day of absolute gluttony – FAST FOOD was involved! – I am all about a little inner beautifying.
Elizabeth TenHouten wrote a book called “Cooking Well: Beautiful Skin” – basically, full of recipes for both antioxidant-rich foods and DIY at-home beauty treatments for beautifying the skin.
Last Thursday, she had a “beautifying” launch party to celebrate the release. A few celebs showed up (Stephanie Pratt “The Hills”, Charlotte Ross “Glee”, Elaine Hendrix “Romy & Michelle’s High… More »
There’s certain things I don’t expect to be cute.
Tampons and panty liners are some of those things. As long as they do their job, I’m usually pretty satisfied.
But why CAN’T they be cute??? They can…as my new selection from Moxie attests.
Compact in purse-worthy tins, Moxie is an Australian brand that makes everything from panty liners to tampons – all in packaging that looks almost like decor, but at the very least is not remotely embarrassing to be seen fall out… More »
OK, so you are washing your hands often, covering your mouth when you cough, and everything else your mom taught you wards off (or contains!) those germs…but is that enough?
Get this: Even getting a manicure during flu season – -especially during the H1N1 (swine flu) scare can lead to getting sick. However, according to Dr. Kenneth Gerenraich (aka Dr. G, founder of Dr. G’s antimicrobial products), there are ways to protect yourself.
1. Ask your technician if they have washed… More »
I had a late night last night – and a very early morning today. The result is my eyes are itching, dry, red, and irritated.
Granted, it’s not all the fault of my crazy schedule, there’s tons of factors involved. But still,“There’s no hiding unhealthy eyes,” says Dr. Elise Brisco.
Luckily, my eyes have hope of being beautiful again! Dr. Brisco offered some fabulous tips to keeping our eyes happy and healthy. (Even if the rest of us isn’t.

Maintaining your skin is a lifelong commitment.
We know that, sure, but that doesn’t mean we always take the steps necessary to maintain it.
I spend a lot of time hanging with my friends – who also happen to be beauty writers – and shockingly enough, skin issues come up. We all know we should take care of our skin, but all of us have individual processes for going about it. No one is wrong, it’s just a very personal process.
But once… More »
I haven’t blogged much about this cause it’s well, not pretty – but I’ve spent much of the last week super-sick. As in well over 100 fever – and just when I thought I was getting better, I’d wear myself down and get sick again.
It was so bad that I had to postpone a trip to Jamaica that I was supposed to be on right this moment.
The culprit? Well, clearly a renegade germ. But also…that I didn’t take my vitamins!

Yesterday, I had a flight connection in Mexico City, and went through my very first customs experience in some time.
I am familiar with customs forms. They are sort of like what we use to mail packages, just we ourselves are the package, right?
However, I was not expecting the public health questionnaire!
Apparently, as a way of warding off the spread of swine flu, EVERYONE who enters or leaves the country has to fill out a survey about their health status.
Questions included… More »
Last night, I flew a red-eye flight from JFK to Mexico City, and am now hanging out in the business lounge awaiting my connecting flight to Cabo.
Last night, as I awaited my flight, I had a glass of wine.
On the flight, I ate a meal of various spices.
I then attempted to sleep.
As you may imagine, now as I sit in Mexico City, with a several-hour layover, I would like to have breakfast – but also have what would be morning… More »
This weekend, Nutrilite flew myself and a few other beauty, health, and sports editors out to Long Beach, California to visit their facilities, and learn about their mission and accomplishments. I learned SO much – and I’m super excited to be able to share some of that knowledge with you!
Here’s a videoed portion of a presentation I attended by Nutrilite’s scientist, Micheline Vargas. Micheline specializes in the development of botanical products with functional properties designed to maintain health and well-being…. More »
So, as I mentioned last week, I’m doing the Slim-Fast Challenge. The company has challenged me and a few others to try their products for a few weeks and see if it helps us get our perfect summer bod.
Or, as close to it as my non-exercising butt will get.
So far, the days have been going relatively well, but I am having problems achieving the boundaries of “sensible dinners”. I love the shakes, and have no problem drinking them for breakfast,… More »
I’ve been feeling a little bit less spectacular lately, and it’s beginning to show from the inside-out. I finally realized that the outward symptoms may be directly related to my spazzing out on taking my vitamins.
Just in time, I got a shipment from GNC. They sent me a variety of products from the line, and right now, I am testing their BeWHOLESOME.
This is a set of health and beauty vitapaks that contain a month’s supply of essential vitamins and minerals.

Exciting news from here in Alyland – Slimfast has contacted me with an awesome proposal.
As we all know, wedding and beach season has crept up on us, and all of us have a few pesky pounds we want to lose just in time. And whether you have a big party to attend, a wedding, or just want to look hot on your summer getaway, it’s crunch time!
To show how easy (and inspiring) it can be to lose a few pounds,… More »
A while back, during a media event, a dermatologist pointed out a mole on my thigh and asked about its origin. The crazy person in me immediately freaked out, but when I told her that I’ve had it forever, and it’s always pretty much looked the same, she visibly relaxed. It’s their job, it seems, to notice random skin things in the same way it’s my job to notice that she had an excellent blowout.
But, lets face it, none of… More »
